PGD (preimplantation genetic diagnosis): Preimplantation diagnostic techniques used to detect a serious genetic disease in an embryo produced in vitro. The disease in question is usually a monogenic (single-gene) disorder. ● PGT-A (Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy): Preimplantation diagnostic techniques used to detect chromosomal disorders in an embryo produced in vitro. ● Polar body diagnosis: Analysis of the polar body of an oocyte to detect genetic mutations or chromosomal disorders. The polar body is a cell formed during oocyte maturation which quickly degenerates. ● Specific couples only underwent a preimplantation diagnostic technique in the year under review without having IVF treatment in the same year (in Switzerland).
